When I painted this piece, I wanted to explore the idea of protection and care. Rendered from a photograph i took of a dear friend holding a bird that had fallen out of it’s nest, just before she put it back to safety. I focused on the gentle curve of her hands, cradling the small bird—almost like a precious stone or a fragile treasure. Her hands are rendered with soft, natural tones to emphasize their warmth and humanity, while the bird inside bursts with color and abstract shapes, representing something deeply valued or cherished. Through this painting, I hoped to express the tenderness we feel when holding onto something meaningful, and the quiet strength that comes from nurturing what matters most.
